2019 FIANCHETTO
WINEMAKER’S NOTES
The 2019 Fianchetto, a single vineyard Bordeaux blend, is a full-bodied, richly textured wine with a densely layered core. It has beautiful aromatics of blackberry, blueberry, dark plum, violet, pencil lead, gravel, cedar, and eucalyptus. The silky, decadent tannins frame well-delineated flavors of blackberry, black plum, tar, mint, cigar tobacco, leather, dark chocolate, and espresso. The wine is exquisitely balanced with impressive breadth and depth. The finish is very long with notes of blackcurrants, earth, and minerality. Properly cellared, this wine should reach maturity in 8-10 years and drink well for 20+ years.
TECHNICAL DETAILS
The wine had a pre-fermentation maceration of 151 hours, and a post-fermentation maceration of 88 hours. 100% native fermentation. The wine was punched down by hand 2-3 times each day during maceration and fermentation. All individual wine components, including free run and press fractions, were kept separate until final blending.
Elevage was 24 months in 80% new French oak from Troncais. After bottling the wine was aged in our cellar for 48 months prior to release. The wine achieved its sparkly brilliance from 4 judicious rackings, no fining agents were employed. The wine was very gently filtered using crossflow filtration. The alcohol is 14.5%, pH is 3.76, and the titratable acidity is 6.2g/L.
