2022 FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME

WINEMAKER’S NOTES
Deep ruby color with a lovely bouquet of black cherry, cassis, cedar, lead pencil, eucalyptus, allspice, and thyme. It has palate notes of cassis, blackberry, black cherry, gravel, minerals, allspice, thyme, eucalyptus, and cigar tobacco. This wine shows perfect balance between the fruit extract, oak tones, vibrant acidity, and ripe, firm tannins. The exceptionally long finish has pure notes of cassis, dark chocolate, cigar tobacco, and smoky incense. The wine has great purity, elegance, power and concentration. This classically styled wine should reach maturity in 8-10 years and gracefully evolve for 20+ years.
TECHNICAL DETAILS
The wine had a pre-fermentation maceration of 167 hours. 100% Native fermentation. The wine was punched down by hand 2 times each day during maceration and fermentation. All individual wine components, including free run and press fractions, were kept separate until final blending. The oak profile is 60% new French oak (predominantly from Troncais and Alliers) and 40% neutral French oak. The wine achieved its sparkly brilliance from 4 judicious rackings, no fining agents were employed. The wine was very lightly filtered to capture any remaining lees. The alcohol is 15.1%, pH is 3.73, and the titratable acidity is 6.1 g/L.

LABEL STORY
Billo and I were 6 and 8 years old respectively when we came to this country from India. Through baseball, we assimilated quickly to our new lives. We fell in love with the game. We were naturally good at it and played at every opportunity we could. For us, baseball is the ideal metaphor for the American way of life. It is inextricably linked to the hopes, promises, and ideals that the United States holds for so many people.
In college, both Billo and I played our last competitive baseball games. Over three decades later, we can still feel the calluses on our hands—a constant reminder of a glorious youth spent on the diamond, playing a game we love, in a country we love. Our passion for winemaking, for the terroir of the land that can grow grapes of incredible quality, has been analogous to our love of baseball and what it represents, so we created a wine to celebrate America’s pastime.
We made our first For the Love of the Game in 2014—a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon wine—and it was a beauty. With the 2022 vintage, we continue to build on what we have created; to showcase the greatness of Cabernet Sauvignon from a part of the world we are proud to call home.
