WINEMAKER’S NOTES

The 2022 Human[e] is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon with fruit coming from some of the best vineyards in WA state: Ciel du Cheval, DuBrul, Firethorn, Summit View, and Weinbau. The wine has a deep purple color with a complex bouquet of blackberry, cassis, black cherry, minerals, and dark chocolate. The palate is equally captivating with a fullbodied, expansive mouthfeel. The finish is beautifully precise and long. Properly cellared, the wine should hit maturity in 8-10 years and provide excellent drinking for approximately 15+ years.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

The wine had a pre-fermentation maceration of 155 hours and a post-fermentation maceration of 118 hours. The wine was punched down by hand 2 times each day during fermentation. 100% native fermentation. All individual wine components, including free run and press fractions, were kept separate until final blending. The wine had an elevage of 21 months in French Oak. The oak profile is 50% new French oak (predominantly from Troncais and Alliers). The wine achieved its sparkly brilliance from 3 judicious rackings, no fining agents were employed. LABEL STORY

The concept of the Human[e] label is to create a wine to raise money for charity; to be human by being humane. We want this to have a global scope, so every year we find an artist representing a different country to create a unique label. 70% of total sales of Human[e] is given to charity. Most is given to charities in the United States; a little bit is given to a charity important to the artist in their home country.

This year’s artist is Ori Toor, hailing from Israel. Ori was raised in an artistic household. His mother, a textile designer, filled their home with classical art books which he read regularly. His mother’s encouragement and his childhood fascination with cartoons fueled his creativity, and these influences can be seen in his work today.

On his Human[e] label, Ori says, “I wanted to express a sense of unity between the people of this planet and the Earth itself. The characters are harmonious with one another and with the scenery and cannot be separated. I wanted to make something that feels universal and intimate all at once.”
